Artist's Bio
Katrina Fairbank is a realistic acrylic painter of both portraits and landscapes. Focusing on light contrasts, Katrina uses the brightness and versatility of acrylics and colored pencil to portray her interpretation of people, animals and landscapes. She also does commissioned portraits in acrylic, charcoal and colored pencil of people, pets and even boats. As a native of Maryland, Katrina studied illustration and music at Montgomery College in Rockville and minored in art education at the University of Maryland. She put her art studies on hold while pursuing two degrees and a career in special education. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1994 where she studied for 3 years at the Bemis School of Art. Katrina took classes in painting and pastel in Florida while on a 3-year RV trip around the country. While living in Durango, CO., she taught an after school art program and private drum lessons in the schools. Now a resident of Southport, N.C., she continues to paint and play drums as well as teach art and music to children. Favorite subjects of Katrina's are boats and coastal scenes, musicians in action, children and pets. Using her camera and sketchbook, she plans paintings on location, working on them later back in her home studio. Katrina's work has shown locally wherever she has lived and has won awards in Colorado and North Carolina. Her commissioned portraits are in private collections in Colorado, Maryland, Montana, North Carolina and Washington. She is a current member of the Associated Artists of Southport, Oak Island Art Guild, the Brunswick Concert Band , Brunswick Big Band and the Brunswick Little Theater. Her work can be seen at Franklin Square Gallery in Southport, NC and Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, as well as local shops here in Southport.
