I don't know when you caught the bug (if you have yet), but it was early for me--when I first saw Ringo Starr playing for the Beatles. I banged on everything in the house, including the back of the guitar my parents wished I would learn to strum instead. By the time I was 11, they finally gave up and bought me my first drum. A few years later, diligent work earned me the complete set. And I haven't stopped playing since. From school concert and marching bands, to a music major at a community college, then going professional in country, rock and oldies bands, before travelling the country and playing in a variety of community concert and brass bands. A few years ago we finally settled down in Southport, NC, where I found myself playing alongside a vast array of seriously talented people in the local theater (Brunswick Little Theatre) for all of their musicals, a few church and choir group events (like the Sea Notes), playing timpani in the Brunswick Concert Band and later playing set for their splinter group, the Brunswick Big Band. How much more fun can you have than that? Well, I'm also enjoying giving drum workshops for elementary school music classes in the area and I give private lessons in my home.
